Meet Nisha Sangwan, Ph.D. Social Work and Registered Clinical Counsellor

I’m Dr. Nisha Sangwan, a conscientious counsellor with a strength-based approach, specializing in creating innovative and comprehensive treatment plans that leverage clients’ existing support networks. I hold a PhD in Social Work from S.P. University in Gujarat, India, an M.Phil, MSW, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Social Work & Environment Management from the same institution. Additionally, I earned a Master’s in School & Youth Counselling Psychology from Adler University in Vancouver, BC.

My clinical experience includes a substantial practicum at the Child and Youth Health Center, where I provided in-depth clinical assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans under the supervision of a licensed clinician. Currently, I am working with DIVERSEcity Community Resources, providing counselling services focused on child, youth, and family issues. My role involves conducting full bio-psychosocial and risk assessments, implementing goal-oriented treatment strategies, and working with a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective client intervention.

In addition to my clinical practice, I have served as a lecturer at S.P. University in Gujarat, India, where I developed and presented lecture materials, conducted seminars and tutorials, and provided career and personal guidance to students. My research and publications span various topics, including social work in disaster risk education, son preference and reproductive behaviour, and family environment's impact on academic achievement motivation.

My skills encompass crisis intervention, case conceptualization, treatment analysis, and individual and group counselling. I am adept in Microsoft XP applications and SPSS packages. I have also completed various training and certification programs, such as trauma-informed yoga, adolescent mindfulness therapy, and synergetic play therapy.
