Melika Milani, MC, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor | Trauma-Informed Therapist | Neurodiversity Specialist
Independent Clinician, Breakthrough ADHD Center

I'm a trauma-informed Clinical Counsellor with a decade of experience supporting families, youth, and adults through some of life's most complex and tender challenges, from anxiety and depression to neurodiversity, identity, and major life transitions.

Children with ADHD and ASD don't experience the world the way most people expect them to. Their nervous systems are wired differently, beautifully, powerfully, and often in ways that leave them exhausted, misunderstood, and struggling to find their footing. Families carry that weight too. My work is to sit with all of that, the complexity, the confusion, the hope, and help each family find a path forward that actually fits them.

What draws me to neurodivergent children specifically is the nuance. These are not straightforward cases. They require a clinician who can hold multiple layers at once,  the child's inner world, the family system, the nervous system underneath it all. That is where I thrive.

As an independent clinician at Breakthrough ADHD Center, I bring together evidence-based approaches with creative, somatic, and expressive interventions, because neurodivergent children often need more than talk therapy alone. Their bodies, their senses, their creativity, these are doorways into healing that I take seriously.

My background is unusually broad. My training spans Psychology, Law, and graduate-level Counselling Psychology, which gives me a deeper understanding of the systems families navigate, and the dynamics that shape how each person in a family feels seen, heard, and supported. I have worked across hospitals, universities, public health authorities, and community settings, and I carry that breadth into every clinical relationship I form.

Beyond the clinic, I am a mentor and advocate committed to youth empowerment and public health, because I believe that supporting neurodivergent children well means caring about the world they are growing up in.

My clinical toolbox includes:

  • Trauma-informed therapy
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
  • Somatic therapy
  • Expressive arts therapy
  • Neurodiversity-affirming practice (ADHD/ASD)
  • Anxiety, depression, and identity support
  • Substance use counselling
  • Family systems support and transition counselling

I'm proud to work alongside the multidisciplinary team at Breakthrough ADHD Center, where every clinician brings specialized, neurodiversity-focused expertise, and where we collaborate closely to make sure no child and no family ever has to navigate this alone.
